Skilled Trades Academy
Pre-Apprentice Skill Trades

Students focus on the commercial construction process in this introductory program exploring Pre-Apprenticeship. They work with experienced professionals in the field as well as representatives of local contractors and local apprenticeship programs.

Welding Technology

Welding provides opportunities for students to gain skills in blueprint reading, design, layout, and fabrication of specific projects great and small. Throughout the program, they develop skills in different welds such as oxy-acetylene, shield metal arc, MIG, and plasma arc cutting.

Computer Aided Design Technology

The Computer Aided Design Technology program provides occupational and technical skills for entry in manufacturing and construction careers or college entrance in the fields of engineering, design, and architecture. Students are introduced to principles and practices, engineering / construction / manufacturing standards, and the use of references and technical information. Students design, document, and build their activities using industry leading software and equipment.

Painting and Drywall

painting-roll-streamlineThe Painting and Drywall program focuses on getting students in the field to acquire the skills necessary for the commercial painting industry. They learn the proper use of hand and power equipment used for applying a variety of finishes.Along with direct links to union apprenticeships, students can earn a ten-hour OSHA card for general construction.

Home Building

In the Home Building program, students construct a house from the basement to the roof. This program concentrates on craftsmanship in framing, floors, trim, cabinetry, and finish work. First year students are involved in building sheds, garages and second year students build a house. Students learn teamwork and participate in budgeting, purchasing, and estimating to prepare for careers in contracting. Students have an opportunity to earn a ten-hour OSHA card for general construction, certify in Lead Safe Work Practices, Power Actuated Tools and learn to drive a skid loader.

Governor Kim Reynolds, a former state senator and county treasurer, serves as Iowa’s 43rd Governor. Prior to taking office on May 24, 2017, she served as Iowa’s 45th lt. governor from 2011-2017. Gov. Reynolds truly understands the importance of fiscal responsibility, job creation, education, and technology.
